Great tits

Their latin name is Parus major, because they are the largest of all tits. They generally live in forested areas, parks and gardens… and in our nest boxes! They eat insects, seeds, and fruits. Unlike other species and especially collared flycatchers, females and males great tits look alike, which makes things difficult for us when we do behavioural tests because they are hard to tell apart. We also encounter blue tits (Parus caeruleus) and coal tits (Parus ater), which have different colors and sizes. So far, I have seen only nests of the different species and not individuals, except for one blue tit laying eggs when I open one of the nest boxes. But I’ll add photos when I have some so you can see how cool they look like!
